In 2009, Phil Lecomte traveled to a small town at the foot of China's Huangshan Mountain with his camera and backpack. After walking about 10 kilometers by the mountain, and just as he wanted to give up, the Frenchman saw a beautiful village— Tunxi. He fell in love with the beautiful nature there.
Lecomte lived in Tunxi for three months. Tunxi is most famous for its Huizhou culture street that has a history of hundreds of years. "I didn' t want to leave here anymore," Lecomte said. His trip to China turned into a long stay.
He often hikes or rides a motorbike with his friends, away from the busy cities, to find hidden scenery(隱秘的風(fēng)景) around Huangshan Mountain. They come to the fields by rivers, ancient(古老的) villages, and forests again and again.
Lecomte likes taking photos wherever he goes. Up till now he has taken more than 118,000 photos in China. Now, he shares these photos on Chinese social media(社交媒體). One of his favorite photos shows a little girl building a snowman in an ancient street. "The girl was me when I was little!" a young woman said excitedly after the photo was posted.
Lecomte still has a photo of his childhood home ...
You don't need money for this vending machine(自動售貨機(jī)), and it also won't give you any food like chocolates, chips or cola. What you' ll get from the vending machine is a book. First graders at A. M. Kulp Primary School were the first to try out the new machine. It was installed(安裝) at the school during the third week of February 2024.
Alyssa Nedorezov— the librarian, the person who works in the library, has been dreaming of this for about a year. She always wants to help students read. She says when students read both in and out school, it will greatly help with the students' reading and make it easier for them to keep a reading habit. Students like getting anything from a vending machine. Alyssa Nedorezov thinks it is fun for kids to get books there. So they will be really interested in reading and fall in love with it.
Here's how it works. When students do something good, their teachers give them something called" cat paw". Then they can change their cat paws into the vending machine tokens(代幣). The token works in the vending machine, and students can choose any book to take home to read for some time or keep forever.
What if there is such a machine in your school in the future?
How do you feel when you have to make a speech in front of class? What about when you go to a birthday party? Do you get really shy?
Shyness means feeling worried or afraid when you' re around other people. Experts(專家) have found that more than 80 percent of middle school students feel afraid to be the center of attention(注意). Some kids are born shy. Some become shy later because of their life experiences(經(jīng)歷).
It's OK if it takes you a minute to feel yourself again when you go to a new place or meet new people. In fact, everybody gets a little shy sometimes. It's just a problem of how much.
Most people have red faces and talk in broken language when they get shy. But some become so shy that they won't go to a restaurant because they are too nervous to order and pay for their food. Some are afraid of meeting new people, so they hardly go outside. This kind of shyness can be bad for a person.
If shyness doesn't stop you from doing something you want to do, being shy isn't a very big problem. Some experts say shy people are cleverer because they think more and talk less. Shy people are also good at working with others because they think more for other people. Some great people in history were shy, too.
You see, being shy isn't all bad. But remember not to let good chances pass by just because of it! If you have to sing a song at a birthday party or practice your spoken English in front of others, just do it! There's nothing to be afraid of.
We all know fights at school sometimes happen. But how can you keep away from a fight?
Keep calm(冷靜的). Sometimes, you feel so angry that you really want to teach somebody a lesson. But being angry isn't the answers to problems. It may bring you more problems. In the school, everyone will be punished(懲罰) if he gets into a fight. There are no winners in a fight.
Shout loudly. If you know someone is coming up behind you to attack(攻擊),turn to the person and say"stop" loudly before walking away. If the person doesn't stop, shout for help by calling out the name of a teacher around you.
Learn to say no. Your friend may ask you to join in a fight, but helping him fight is not really helpful to him. Also, you can tell him if he gets into a fight, he may get hurt and be punished. Then, try to learn why he wants a fight and help him find a right way to solve the problem.
Remember, don't fight at school. This is a school rule. We must follow it.
A. A fight can't help, either. B. Here are some ways to help you. C. Here are too many rules at school. D. You must try to ask him not to fight. E. Loud voice can usually make the attacker calm down. |
If you get angry next time, will you fight with others? Why or why not?(約10詞)
