"Never give up!" It is my law(法則) of life. It has brought me 1. I learned the law from my father's 2 story.
My father was 3 in a poor village in the north of Jiangsu, in China. When he was a young boy, he went to school in the morning, then 4 in the fields till sunset. And then he did his homework 5 midnight. Life was hard, because they had no 6!
At the age of 14, my father heard of the United States of America. It was the land of gold, the land where 7 people can become rich.
"8 don't I go to America?" he thought to himself, full of hope.
So my father came to America. “I had thought it was easy to 9 money in America," he told me. "But when I arrived there, I realized it was not true. They did not like to hire (雇傭) me because I spoke 10 English. Later, I worked in a small restaurant, cleaning up tables, 11 dishes and sweeping the floor. Life was 12 for the first few years. I worked from 10 a.m. to 11 p. m. I wanted to go to school to learn English, but it was impossible. I couldn't 13 the schooling (學(xué)費). "
My father 14 working hard, and reached his goal.
"Alan," he often says to me. "If you want something, you have to work for it and never give up. Things do not come 15 in life." That is what I learned from my father.
Different vitamins are found in different foods. Then which food should be eaten to keep us healthy? Let's look at some important vitamins for the answer.
Vitamin A helps to protect skin from becoming dry. It is also helpful to the eyes. Without vitamin A, you cannot see well in darkness. Vitamin A is found in animal liver and the yellow part of eggs. Sweet potatoes, carrots and other dark-coloured fruit and vegetables have something that the body can change into vitamin A.
Vitamin B1 changes foods into energy and helps the heart and nervous system (神經(jīng)系統(tǒng)) to work smoothly. Without it, we will be weak and will not grow. It is found in grains and other foods like beans, nuts, meat and fish.
Vitamin B12 helps to produce red blood cells. It is found in foods like eggs, meat, fish, milk and green leafy vegetables.
Vitamin C is needed for strong bones and teeth, and for healthy blood vessels (血管). It also helps wounds to heal (愈合) quickly. The body stores little vitamin C, so we must get it every day in foods like oranges, tomatoes and cabbage.
Vitamin D increases the levels of calcium (鈣) in the blood. Calcium is needed for nerve and muscle cells to work normally, as well as to build strong bones. Fish liver oil has vitamin D. In some countries, milk producers add vitamin D to milk so that it will be good for children.
When you wave to a friend, you are using body language. When you smile at someone, you mean to be friendly. When you put one finger in front of your mouth, you mean "be quiet.''
Yet, people in different countries may use different body languages.
Once an Englishman was in Italy. He could speak little Italian. One day while he was walking in the street, he felt hungry and went into a restaurant. When the waiter came, the Englishman opened his mouth, put his fingers into it and took them out again and moved his lips. In this way, he meant to say, "Bring me something to eat." But the waiter brought him a lot of things to drink, first tea, then coffee, then milk, but no food.
The Englishman was sorry that he was not able to tell the waiter he was hungry. He was ready to leave the restaurant when another man came in. The man put his hands on his stomach, and this body language was good enough for the waiter. In a few minutes, the waiter brought him a large plate of bread and meat.
Finally the Englishman had his meal in the same way.
